Introduce yourself

As a long-standing OSGB member, (and for a short time committee member), I question the wisdom of increasing the membership fees at a time when many people are struggling to pay bills. I fear this price increase will be unitentionally discriminatory, deterrring renewals and deterring new, younger, members.

If, as it seems, a key reason for this increase in membership fees is the increased cost of printing the OSGB Journal, I suggest that the OSGB offers two diffent membeship fees for those who want a printed and online copy of the Journal and to those who would be happy to receive a copy online only.

Personally, I'd prefer to continue to receive a printed copy and pay the increased membership fee. The point I'm trying to make however is that I think many current members and potential new members may not feel the same way and they should be give…

Hi, first time member currently living in Central Bedforshire after re-starting my windowsill/ growlight collection (currently just 18 orchids, two years ago after a 15 year break (house move no space and too cold...). I am slowly increasing my collection, mainly cattleya types, oncidium types, cologyne (cristata, oviata, would love to expand if I had the space), zygo's, a warm tolerent Mastevallia, a few house warming Phalaenopsis gifts, and a no ID cymbidium division from my mother in law.

Currently battling a mealybug infestation! I am looking forward to being part of the OSBG and finally meeting other like minded people.

Hi All, I live in Cambridge and grow mostly species in a 12x8, 6 foot high at the eaves polycarbonate greenhouse. It is divided with a sliding door into a cool section (min 8-10c) and an intermediate one (min 14-16c. I also have a small (2x2x3foot) extra heated mini greenhouse inside the intermediate section where I try to grow a few hothouse plants (min 5c hotter). Two thirds of my plants are in pots and the rest mounted.

Although I do have a few hybrids, I mostly grow miniature, small and medium sized species with a decided preference for Australasian (lots of Dendrobiums, quite a lot of Coelogynes and Vandas) - although I have been unable to resist African and American ones too. I am retired so have a fair bit of time to spend trying to understand and grow well what I have. Watering each plant individually takes forever!
