About the Event

The essence of the talk is to analyse, understand and explain all of the individual nutrients that orchids require for optimal growth. However, the talk is not just about nutrients, it is also about many of the practical elements that have to be considered when watering/feeding your plants. The talk uses theory as a backdrop but is based on decades of practical application and this is fully shared within the talk.

Biography

As a grower I have been involved in orchids for in excess of 30 years.

I specialise in Paphiopedilums and Phragmipediums in my intermediate house and Masdevallias and Oncidiums in the cool house.

I am the Vice President of Solihull & District Orchid Society having served as Chairman, Show Secretary and represented them on the BOC.

I am also a member of the OSGB, the British Paphiopedilum Society and the Pleurothallid Alliance.

Throughout this time I have been actively showing plants at various shows including Peterborough, Malvern, OSGB, BPS and the Pleurothallid Alliance winning numerous rosettes, trophies and awards.

To date I have been awarded an AM and a CCC for plants by the RHS Orchid Committee.

In 2000 I formed a company (MAM Horticulture) specialising in selling various products to orchid growers being the European Distributor of DynaGro fertilisers and Physan and became a member of BOGA including being the Editor of the Golden Guide for many years.

I could be found at Newbury, Peterborough & Malvern, as well as other society shows. This business was sold to Peter White in 2010 but continue to work with Peter to this day.

Throughout this time I have given talks to Orchid Societies and to local Garden Clubs.

I have travelled extensively looking for orchids in the wild and have visited Thailand, Peru, Ecuador, Malaysia, Borneo and Singapore with many of the plants seen appearing in my various talks.
