The Orchid Society of Great Britain

I am Portuguese born and raised and have been living in the UK for the past seven years.

I studied law and have worked as a barrister for most of my professional life and, more recently, worked in compliance in financial services.

My incursion into the orchid world is somewhat recent, having joined the OSGB in late 2017, more out of curiosity and chance than anything else. I vividly recall the first couple of meetings I attended and especially the great people I met and talked to in those early days. One or two meetings later, I had seen more and more diverse orchids than I even knew existed – needless to say, I was hooked. During the Society’s 2019 show season, I volunteered to help with displays. One day turned into a week, and more than four years later I am now a key member of he team.

I enjoy how the Society allows such different people with diverse backgrounds to gather around a mutual interest, and I am grateful to have been able to make so many friends along the way. I hope this new chapter will allow me to make a few more while being able to support the Society further.
