Increase in membership fees

As a long-standing OSGB member, (and for a short time committee member), I question the wisdom of increasing the membership fees at a time when many people are struggling to pay bills. I fear this price increase will be unitentionally discriminatory, deterrring renewals and deterring new, younger, members.

If, as it seems, a key reason for this increase in membership fees is the increased cost of printing the OSGB Journal, I suggest that the OSGB offers two diffent membeship fees for those who want a printed and online copy of the Journal and to those who would be happy to receive a copy online only.

Personally, I'd prefer to continue to receive a printed copy and pay the increased membership fee.  The point I'm trying to make however is that I think many current members and potential new members may not feel the same way and they should be given…

I think a dual membership fee is a reasonable idea, for the reasons you outline, although I would personally opt for a printed version. Perhaps we should poll the membership? I belong to the AOS which has dual membership options and get the online AOS journal. On another note it would be nice if the back editions of the journal were available online to members as in the AOS

Dendrobium wardianum

Do any members grow this species who mioght be able to spare a keiki or division?

I have one, originally a seedling from Dick Warren, but it tends to flower from every node in the spring leaving almost none to grow keikis! I have this year managed to take cuttings from the bottom section of the stems where there were a couple of nodes that did not produce buds, so I have two tiny plantlets just beginning to grow roots. I would rather not disturb them for a few months yet. In the spring, if they do well over winter I would be happy to part with one. My email is richardsfolk@gmail.com and I live in Cambridge. It is possible that Dick Warren may have some seedlings still.

Open day at The Mathers Foundation

Great afternoon at The Mathers Foundation open day yesterday.

Brilliant show around the greenhouses by Jim Durrant - very informative talk.

They hold the National Collection of Oncidiums.
