Terry
My name is Terry and I am what I think is known as a 'magazine member'. I live too far away from London (near Taunton in Somerset) to attend the monthly meetings but I do enjoy reading the magazine and belonging to the Society. In a strange way the Covid-19 problems have increased my ability to interact with the OSGB. I can now enter plants in the online table show and now we have this Forum!
I am an active member of the South West of England Orchid Society, based near Taunton and attend shows in the South West and occasionally further afield.
I have been growing orchids for about 25 years and now concentrate on Cymbidiums. I am lucky enough to live in the country and have a large garden with enough space for a couple of 10'x 8' greenhouses.
I have made one hybrid, Cattleya Ella Lucy Jones, where I did everything from pollination to sowing to replating and finally flowering. Since then I have sown and grown on dendrobiums, cymbidiums and cattleyas. As my sowing and replating is done in a glove box rather than a Laminar Flow cabinet, my success rate is less than 40% but originally I only tried it to see if I could!
Hi Pearl, like you I started with a couple of flasks and then a few more. Once ready they have to go into small pots and then 3" pots then 5" and so on and before you know it you have run out of space. Make sure you plan ahead🤣
